SIP OF ART: HUMAN RIGHTS AND ART
The Platform of Human Rights Organisations in Malta has been awarded funding by the Malta Creative Communities Fund for a project which promotes human rights through art. Sip of Art brings together the community, businesses, art & human rights.
The community are invited to create a piece of art, poetry, etc, with a human rights theme at designated Cafés & can exchange their art piece for a cup of coffee/tea. Along with the art materials, one can also find leaflets about human rights at the Café. During the project 3 artists will lead informal talks about differing themes related to human rights and art. At the end of the project, all art pieces will be collected and printed in a photobook which will be available for the general public.
The project will include: an official Launch Party (mid-January); the Sip of Art Exchange, where customers exchange the art pieces created at the café for any free item offered by the café, (mid-January to mid-April); 3 informal talks, led by artists will be held at the cafés &; the launch of a photobook with all of the art pieces collected.
The community is being given the space to explore their more creative side whilst taking into consideration human rights issues.
Watch this space for updates on the artists and cafés participating in this event.
